Propose a mechanism to separate CuCl2 and NiCl2 dissolved in water.
The solution is aqueous, and I want to separate CuCl2 and NiCl2 into two separate them from each other. Extraction is preferred, but if that does not work, precipitating is also possible.
Add DMG (dimethyl glyoxime) to the mixture , Ni will precipitate out as red Ni(DMG) complex leaving behind Cu in the solution.
Filter out precipitates of Ni .
Then add NaOH to the filtrate , Cu will precipitate out as white precipitates of Cu(OH)2 . Filter out the Cu precipitates.
Thus Ni and Cu will be separated.

An aqueous solution of KCI has 30. g of KCl dissolved in 100. g of water at 80'C. what additional mass of KCl can be added to the solution before reaching the saturation point? (Show work) e.
Consider the aqueous solution formed when each of the ionic solids below are dissolved in water. Indicate if the solution will be acidic, basic or neutral. If you indicated that the solution is either acidic or basic, give the pertinent reaction that generates either hydrogen ions H+ or hydroxide ions OH− that involves the appropriate ion. For: MgCl2, KCH3 COO(s), Mg(CN)2(s), NH4 I and LiBr(s)
Let's assume the distribution coefficient of caffeine between dichloromethane and water is 3. You have a 10mL aqueous solution of caffeine that contains 100mg of caffeine dissolved in it. You also have 10mL dichloromethane. If you do just one extraction using 10mL dichloromethane, how much caffeine you can recover from the aqueous solution? 25mg 50mg 75mg 100mg None of the above QUESTION 3 Let's assume the distribution coefficient of caffeine between dichloromethane and water is 3. You have a 10mL...
