Glycolysis is a set of reactions that occur in the cytoplasm. It is a catabolic pathway that is independent of the presence or absence of oxygen. It involves oxidation of one glucose molecule to two pyruvate molecules.
Gluconeogenesis refers to the biosynthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources. It is an anabolic pathway that occurs when blood glucose levels are low.

Green metabolites = Activators
Red metabolites = Inhibitors
Insulin promotes glycolysis while glucagon inhibits it.
Epinephrine promotes gluconeogenesis.
