Discuss the differences and similarities between restorative and retributive justice practices. In your response, discuss the following: Who are the victims, offenders, and stakeholders in each? What are the goals of both restorative and retributive justice.
Restorative justice is the system in which the response to the crime is given by conducting a meeting in which victims, offenders, stake holders participate. It is to know how the crime has been committed, who is responsible for that, who is the affected one. After listening to them, the offenders are made to pay the victim or give compensation to the affected or the loss occured. They are made not only to pay money but any other forms of assets or gold. By this way the offenders are made not to do any crimes in future and to know their mistake. The victims get satisfaction for the justice done. The stake holders are the one who may be the supporters of victim, media, political officials, families, schools or anyone who also got affected by the crime.
On the other hand, Retributive justice is similar to restorative justice but here the offender is punished for commiting the crime. Victims are given assurance and confidence by doing so. It tells those who did the crime has to be punished equally in return. The role if victims, offenders and stake holders remain same as in restorative but here offenders are punished while in restorative, offenders are charged compensation. The punishment is as per law, inherent, limits no personal opinion, no revenge. It is purely to avoid the offender commiting future crimes same as in restorative system.
