1a.) Giotto’s Arena Chapel Paintings were created using which medium
Now we are speaking of the Renaissance period, roughly between 1200 and 1400 or a time period that was considered as Late Gothic. In history this time period was referred to as Middle ages. Giotto was known for his Medieval style. As far as Giotto was concerned, the paintings that were created by him in the Chapel were mainly created using water based paints directly on the plaster. He had a very unique style of his own which was appreciated by everyone.
But as far as medium use is concerned, Giotto was known for his unique Frescos which were painted by him in the Arena. It could not be encaustic as the process involved making use of heat for painting colors to the medium. Giotto was also not known for using oil’s to paint, so the correct answer can be Frescos.
Now here we are speaking of the famous artists like Raphael, Leonardo and Michalangelo, so it is obvious that they had their own unique Frescos style. Probably they made use of colors with delicacy. Some of the works of this time also reflected a lot of harmony and beauty. They created beauty on the canvas. Their works included a lot of details and technical perfections.
During high renaissance time, artists actually made use of oils to create more softer looks in their paintings. These artists were known for their softer forms and diversity. So when I look at all the options provided by you, it is obvious that the best fit would be dynamic composition (which can be reflected in most high renaissance works), expressive gestures and somber overtones. So this should be the right option.
When speaking of Van Eyck’s Arnolfini portrait, there are a lot of hidden meanings in the paintings. But these hidden secrets can be referred to as symbolic meanings of the painting –which are full narrative. The painting in itself is considered as an exceptional work created by the artist. But still when looking closely, you may find a lot of sequences that are inspired by Christ and his events like last resurrection and much more.
Then in the same paintings we see the artists self portrait and lot more that can be considered as symbolic elements. So I think the right option here should be symbolic elements.
It is obvious that Titan was known for using bold colors. Some of his works also reflect usage of rare pigments, saturated form and color balancing techniques. Apart from this you see a lot of light effects being used in his works and contrasting hues.
Some of his earlier works also reflected use of loose brush work but a lot of in-depth emotions. A lot of delicacies and softness can be noticed n his works. So I think the right option here should be balanced composition, subdued colors and thin sheer paint.
Now linear prespective is generally used by the artist to add a new dimension or depth element to the panting. It portraits how distant objects would appear smaller in the paintings. Now light blue hues generally used in the paintings represented healing, health and tranquilty.
But artists made use of light blue hues to create a new dimension in the paintings. So I think here the best option should be Linear Perspective as Horizon line may not necessary be created using light blue hues. Atmospheric perspective is also created by many artists using combinations of dark and light blue hues.
