How do you determine the reactivity of an amino acid group? How would I compare them?

Answer #1

The amino acid can act both as a acid and a base.Thus it can exist as a zwitter ion in some pH values.

If an acid reacts then it takes up H+ by COOH part and becomes positive if if base is added then it removes H+ making it negative.

In both the cases amino acid maintains the pH of the solution altered.

The different reactivities are compared by the R groups and effects that are linked in the side chain.
