We have to look into some features of the population, like, if the range of the population is real line (or at least R+ ) , if it is symmetric , if its mean median and mode are all same ( if provided).

Another empirical method is , if we have some data points from the population, put it in the graph, if a bell shaped moderately kurtic figure appears, then it can be said that the population follows normal distribution.
