The OS, networking software, and the hardware infrastructure is involved in creating, accessing, managing, and processing the databases.

A database engine is the heart of DBMS software, it is responsible for data storage, manipulation, and retrieval. Netflix has several database engines for the different DBMSs it has. The data definition component is used to create and maintain the data dictionaryand define the structure of files in a database.

Data manipulation:

The data manipulation component is used to add, delete, modify, and retrieverecords from a database. A query language is used for this component such as Structured Query Language (SQL) or Query By Example (QBE). Cassandra is an open source NoSQL database that is all about flexibility, scalability and performance. The reason why they use multiple NoSQL solutions is because each one is best suited for a specific set of use cases. For example, HBase is naturally integrated with the Hadoop platform, whereas Cassandra is best for cross-regional deployments and scaling with no single points of failure.

Application generation: The application generation component is used to design elements of an application using a database, such as data entry screens, interactive menus, and interfaces with other programming languages.

Data administration: The data administration component, also used by IT professionals and database administrators, is used for tasks such as backup and recovery, security, and change management.
