N = normal force = mg = 140 N

Limiting friction force 105 N

a) force applied is less than limiting friction force hence box remain at rest

Applied force is balanced by friction force

friction force = applied force = 84 N

b) applied force is more than limiting friction force hence box moves

friction force = kinetic friction force = 0.4 x 140 = 56 N
