Answer #1

Tetanus is caused by the bacterium - Clostidium tetani. Formation of endospores is very important for this organism for its survival. Clostridium tetani is an anaerobic organism, therefore to survive in environment where oxygen is present, endospores of organism are helpful.

Endospores are an important component of a tetanus infection because endospore structure protect the bacteria against disinfectant or any other defense mechanism of body that would usually kill other non-spore forming bacteria. Therefore, Clostridium tetani stays in dormant state until proper conditions become available to cause the bacterium to switch from dormant to live form.
