Define and provide one historical example of whistleblowing.  Be sure to incorporate the distinction between internal and external whistleblowing in your definition.  In addition, explain the dichotomy between an engineer's personal life and his or her professional duties given the lack of legislation that currently exists for justified whistleblowing.  Finally, apply 2 or more of Ross’s prima facie duties to this last part of your answer in order to object to mandatory whistleblowing when the public’s safety is in jeopardy.

One historical example of a whistle blower is Mark Felt .

During the scandal of watergate , Mark Felt used to blew whistle on  a  presidency . On a clever note, he acted as a spy and provided information to reporters of Washington namely Bob Woodward and Carl bernstein , about the wrongdoings of Richard Nixon . As the information forced Nixon to resign from the position of president .

Internal Whistleblowing : A person who expectedly reports the wrongdoings of a person , reaching the workplace of the person . The reportings can deal with the harmful practices of medicine , violating the norms of an environment , selling products which are defective in nature, etc .

External Whistleblowing :It is a person who notices the crime , performed by an individual. The individual can be an employer of a company , supplier , competitor etc ., thereby announcing the wrongdoings of a person to an outsider , which is a private attorney . It is legal in nature.

a. Whistleblowing is justified in case , when the employee has already to its supervisor , by makining the moral concerns to be known.

b. The employee has the right to take any action upto the board.

c. Employee believes in public making change in the society .

All these are justified only if the ethics are moral.

Prima Facie Duties of Ross are :

a. Being obligated .

b. Speak truth .

c. Obeying the laws .

d. To provide protection to people .

e. To keep one's promises.

f. Social workers must follow the mandatory rules as formulated by the authoring body

g. The employers and their colleagues must cooperate with each other, in order to serve a better service.
