Problem Set 1: A researcher wanted to examine if there is a relationship between one’s general self concept and self concept of intimate relationships. In this study, 80 participants completed self-reflections on both concepts using ratio-based inventories, where higher numbers indicate higher self esteem generally, and better abilities in sustaining intimate relationships, respectively. The variables are named “GENERAL” and “INTIMATE” in the “Week 7 Data Set” SPSS data file used in the previous section.

What appropriate test would you use in SPSS to answer the researchers question? (NOTE: It is asking for the relationship, not the prediction)

Answer #1

The appropriate test I would use in SPSS to answer the researcher's question is the Bivariate Correlation test because we have to find the relationship between the variables.
