A researcher was interested in studying chromosomal damage in fish caused by water pollution. The lake where samples were taken was divided into three separate/independent sections. At each of the three sampling stations, two fish samples were taken. DNA samples were processed and the number of genetic polymorphisms in each of the six fish were recorded.

NOTE: there was only funding to run six genetic analyses. So with three sample sites (a control area with fresh water, a highly polluted area – next to an oil refinery, and an intermediate area) two fish were caught at each site for analysis.

1. Can a parametric statistical test be used? Explain.

2.         What search terms would you use to look online or in a book to determine what statistical test should be used? Even if you know what test to use, think through how you would search/double-check your work.

3. What statistical test is appropriate for this situation? Provide some evidence supporting your decision.

4. State the HO and HA for this statistical test.

    1. A hypothetical investigation on rider satisfaction with a particular public transit system serving commuting residents of British California (BC) and Prince Edward’s County (PEC) offers some interesting findings. The proportion of commuters from BC that indicated low satisfaction with the transit system’s service in the 2018 calendar year was 65 percent, and the proportion from PEC was 70 percent. These point estimates were based on samples of 5,380 BC commuters and 6,810 PEC commuters, whose system-using commuters number in...

_____ 5. What statistical test would you use to analyze the data derived from this study? A common belief held by laypersons is that smoking marijuana affects a person’s pupil size. To study this issue, Weil, Zinberg, and Nelson (1968) administered a high dose of marijuana to ten men by having them smoke a potent marijuana cigarette. These men were between the ages of 21 and 26 and all smoked tobacco cigarettes regularly, but had never smoked marijuana. Pupil size...

explaim the mechanisms amd toxological effects if type 1 diabetes in this article Exposure to arsenic in drinking water is associated with increased prevalence of diabetes. We previously reported an association of diabetes and urinary concentration of dimethylarsinite (DMAS"), a toxic product of arsenic methylation by arsenic (+ 3 oxidation state) methyltransferase (AS3MT). Here we examine associations between AS3MT polymorphism, arsenic metabolism and diabetes. Fasting blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance and self-reported diagnoses were used to identify diabetic individuals. Inorganic...
