Answer #1

This question belongs to one of the technique of mass spectrometry.

Molecules collides to each other in a proper orientation with a sufficient energy and it is known as the activation energy and therefore the chemical bonds breaks down. This criteria which meets these conditions and occurs in a chemical reaction is called successful collision or an effective collision.

CID (Collision induced dissociation) is a very powerful technique for the determination of ion structures of an isolated ion species in a quadrupole ion traps.

There are various parameters which influence the product ion spectra in a collision induced dissociation.

(1) first parameter is the kinetic energy of gaseous ions.

On applying the voltage, ions starts to move from the centre to a region of higher potential, where the ions become accelerated and the kinetic energies of these ions increases. These collisions lead to enhancement of internal energy of ions.

(2) second parameter is the temperature.

When temperature is increased or decreased it affects the the product ion spectra in a collision induced dissociation. As temperature increases, the collisions between ions increases and it leads to the more fragmentation of molecule which is operated on mass spectrometer. Due to this internal energies of ions increases and the product ion spectra shows the different spectra.
