To calculate the molar extinction coefficient of Allura red, we have to make the calibration curve.

Plot the values of dye concentration on x-axis and corresponding values of absorbance on y-axis.

Ideally we should get a straight line but if the line is not straight then determine the best fit line.

From graph (attached below) we see that equation of best fit line is : y = 23714x + 0.016

where y represents absorbance and x represents concentration of dye (M)

Value of slope = 23714 M-1

Molar extinction coefficient = (slope) / (path length)

Molar extinction coefficient = (23714 M-1) / (1.00 cm)

Molar extinction coefficient = 23714 M-1cm-1
