How do you account for the development from simple cave based rituals and Venus figurines to such highly sophisticated beliefs and practices --- do you think we are seeing the same fears/concerns/desires driving the development of more complex religion and social systems or is something really new happening?

I believe Humankind has always thrived on basic needs. Food, clothing and shelter. During the stone age, the man was very clear about his needs. He had to hunt, survive the attacks and reproduce. With time development has happened and the man started to believe that there is more to life than just food, shelter and clothing. Then came in education. Education is not only limited to going to school and learning sciences. It is more about understanding your environment and preparing yourself to survive in it. Education existed even in simple caved times when the elders taught young ones to hunt and protect themselves.

Man has always followed some superior power that he thought was stronger than him. This, in some way always helped in putting a check to chaos but also sometimes was a reason for chaos. The fears, concerns, desires have always existed inside man. But with the development of the brain and changing ideologies, everyone's fears, desires, concerns have been amplified.

I don't think something new is happening. There is a change that is taking place but it is based on the same ideologies as it was during the stone age. That is the superior power to follow. In this era it is science. In coming times something new may come up.
