The skills that facility managers need to strategically lead the organization, manage FM processes, satisfy stakeholders, and leverage technologies in a productive and ethically responsible way are as follows:

  • Communication skills- Facility Manager's job involves a lot of interaction with various stakeholders. Thus facility managers need to have excellent communication skills to perform their duties efficiently.
  • Problem-solving skills- Facility Managers keep on facing different situations or problems while executing their work. Hence they need to have very good problem-solving skills to get the work done on time.
  • Leadership skills- Facility managers have to lead multiple people in the organization to keep all processes run smoothly, so they need to have very good leadership skills.
  • Team working skills- Facility managers are required to work along with people of various departments, third party agencies and therefore they need to have good team working skills.
  • Technological skills- Facility managers may be required to work on the latest technologies and have to make the best use of such technologies. They are therefore required to have good technological skills.
  • Time management skills- Facility managers may be required to work under stringent timelines or get work done on short notice. So, they need to have good time management skills.

With the above skills, Facility managers would be able to carry out their duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
