Chapter 10 Assignment. Assessing Job Performance

This assignment is important because as a manager you will have to assess employees job performance and if it is below expectations you will need to develop a performance improvement plan (PIP).

The assignment should be no more than 1,000 words. Provide a complete and thorough answer to all parts of the questions below. 80% of the paper grade will revolve around content issues, with 20% revolving around writing style issues. Upload papers to D2L.

General Cognitive ability or the g-factor has been regarded as the best predictor of job performance. Using your O*NET Online job, you will develop a plan to assess cognitive, emotional and physical ability in job performance. Include an explanation of each of the points below as you describe your training and development plan.

  1. Explain how the job you selected could be redesigned to accommodate people who lack the relevant abilities. Include an explanation for cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities? What factors would you consider to determine whether to redesign a job.

2. Take and defend a position on whether an employee can be cognitively overqualified. Include any challenges you perceive and how you would address those challenges

In today’s economy, it has become increasingly common for overqualified candidates to apply for a position that is below their skill set. While overqualified applicants bring obvious advantages, such as rich experience, leadership potential or a reduced learning curve, many businesses are wary of hiring them for fear they might be difficult to manage or jump ship as soon as a more attractive job offer comes along.

Machines are eating humans’ jobs talents. And it’s not just about jobs that are repetitive and low-skill. Automation, robotics, algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) in recent times have shown they can do equal or sometimes even better work than humans who are dermatologists, insurance claims adjusters, lawyers, seismic testers in oil fields, sports journalists and financial reporters, crew members on guided-missile destroyers, hiring managers, psychological testers, retail salespeople, and border patrol agents. Moreover, there is growing anxiety that technology developments on the near horizon will crush the jobs of the millions who drive cars and trucks, analyze medical tests and data, perform middle management chores, dispense medicine, trade stocks and evaluate markets, fight on battlefields, perform government functions, and even replace those who program software – that is, the creators of algorithms.
