At an influenza immunization clinic at a retirement community, residents were asked in how many previous years they had received the influenza vaccine. The answers from the first 19 residents are listed below.

2, 0, 3, 1, 0, 1, 2, 2, 4, 8, 1, 3, 3, 12, 1, 6, 2, 5, 1

Step 1. Plot these data on a histogram, with X being the number of times that a resident received a shot (e.g. each unique response), and Y being the frequency of that response. Then, characterize the distribution (normal, positively skewed, or negatively skewed).

Step 2. Organize these data into a frequency distribution table.

Step 3. Report the range and identify the mode and median.

Range: Mode: Median:

Step 4. Calculate the mean number of previous influenza vaccinations the residents have had.

Step 5. Comment on the shape of the distribution—is it normal or skewed positively or negatively? Given the shape of the distribution, which is the best measure of central tendency to characterize the data? Why?
