Why can't ionic bonds ever be "double" or "triple", and why don't we represent them as...

Why can't ionic bonds ever be "double" or "triple", and why don't we represent them as "lines between atoms" like we do for covalent bonds? there is one reason that answers both questions.

The answer is:

When a covalent bond is formed electrons are shared between two elements equally, thus it is represented by a bond (single,double or triple depending upon the electron number) as overlap of the orbitals takes place.

while an ionic compound is formed complete transfer of electron take place from one element to other.thus no overlap between orbitals take place.so we do not represent any line as bond between the elements.
