From the following anions: Br-, CO32- Cl-, I-, NO3-, SO42-, list the ions that meet the following criteria.
1a) Is involved in an oxidation-reduction reaction as part of a confirmation reaction.
1b) Does not produce a precipitate in any classification or confirmatory reaction described in this experiment.
Info about the experiment: This experiment is titled " The Chemistry and Qualitative Analysis of Anions" and there is information about acid-base reactions, hydrolysis reactions, oxidation-reduction reactions, disproportionation reactions, decomposition, precipitation, dissolution, ion product and extraction in the pre-lab.
Please make sure they are correct and I will mark your answer thumbs up. Thank you so much!!
1.a)
Nitrate (NO3-) undergoes reduction - oxidation reaction in its confirmatory test. The confirmatory test is Brown ring test where Fe (II) is oxidised to Fe (III) and NO3- is reduced.
b)
Only nitrate (NO3-) can not be detected by precipitate because nitrate can not produce any water insoluble salt. Rest of the ions can be detected by precipitation reactions.
Cl-; Br- and I- can be detected by precipitation with AgNO3 whereas SO4-2 and CO3-2 can be detected by precipotarion with BaCl2.
