Background: A total of 8 drops were added, one at a time, to 70ml of distilled water. The additives were NaCl, AlCl3, CaCl2 to determine a slope while each drop was added in (separate trials).

Slopes:

NaCl - 89.93

AlCl3 - 181.8

CaCl2 - 149.2

Suppose sulfates (SO42-) were used with the same 3 cations to do this experiment instead of chlorides. Write out the dissociation reactions that would take place for the 3 compounds and predict while compounds would have the highest, lowest, and median slopes on their conductivity plots.

As number of Ions produced on dissociation are highest for Aluminium Sulphate, so it will be having highest slope.

while, calcium sulphate produces only 2 ions, that is calcium & sulphate. therefore, its slope will be least.
