The defamatory statement is considered as the false statement of the fact which leads to causing the injury or the damage to someone. Also, it would have few of the arguments which if being raised and proven by the defendant would lead to defeating the defamation claim. Some of the common defenses and the privileges being used in defamation lawsuit are the truth, the allegedly defamatory statement which was the statement of opinion and has consent for publication of the allegedly defamatory statement, it also has the absolute privilege, qualified privilege, and the retraction of the allegedly defamatory statement.

Example:

For the absolute privilege, it is during the judicial proceedings, during the political broadcasts or the speeches etc
