A support bar for a piece of machinery has a rectangular cross- section 1.50 in across, and 0.50 in high. The tensile load varies from a maximum of 15,000 lbs, to a minimum of 7500 lbs. Rapid cycling for many millions of cycles is expected. The bar is made from SAE 5140 OQT 400 Steel. Compute the factor of safety (design factor) for the bar.
