Answer #1

As per blending hypothesis of inheritance, the traits present in the progeny of two parents are intermediate of the parents. This can be well explained by the example of coat colour in horses.

When 2 palomino horses are crossed, we not only get palominos as progeny, but chestnut and cremello horses are also present.

Palomino (Cr/n) × Palomino (Cr/n)

Cr codes for cream colour.

Gametes Cr n
Cr Cr/Cr (cremello) Cr/n (palomino)
n Cr/n (palomino) n/n (chestnut)

Phenotypic ratio - 1 (cremello) : 2 (palomino) : 1 (chestnut)

In horses, the basic color of the coat is governed by the E locus. EE and Ee horses can make black pigment, while ee horses are a reddish chestnut. A different locus, the R locus, can cause roan, a scattering of white hairs throughout the basic coat color. However, the roan allele has a serious drawback: RR embryos always die during fetal development. Rr embryos survive and are roan, while rr horses survive and are not roan. The E locus...

    5. Pretend that the trait for shiny coat color in dogs is controlled by a simple dominant and recessive relationship at one locus. Shiny coat color (H) is dominant to dull coat color (h). In an animal shelter, the shelter workers take a tally of dogs with shiny coats and those with dull coats. Of the 153 dogs, 88 have shiny coats. Assuming the dogs are in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for this trait, find the frequency of the dominant allele H...

    2. In Labrador dogs, there are 2 loci that determine coat color. The first locus, B is dominant to b. At least one B allele will produce black coat color, while the bb genotype produces a chocolate coat color. This first locus also determines nose color in Labradors: B_ black noses, and bb brown noses. The second locus has a genotype, ee, that is epistatic in nature. Any Labrador with an ee genotype will be yellow. A genotype containing at...
