Answer #1

The movie Gattaca represents a distant futuristic possibility of how we live as a society in some ways , where one lass of people is revered to lead with good life and a good career whereas another set of people struggling daily to work hard still not being able to chase success , in the film however the dimension is different , it uses science to facilitate discrimination , one could argue that how can that be done but as like the movie suggests, it uses DNA profiling and genetic origin to pursue that . The movie has deeper significance when we compare it with the real world , when the movie is compared with the real world as we are living right now , we can notice many similarities , we have already evolved into a society who continually carry put surveillance of people on the basis of genetics . Many of the leading crime and detective agencies use genetic and forensic science to solve the cases and find the criminal , though deemed as an important tool for solving cases , mass surveillance of people on the basis of DNA and genetics can be deemed as unethical if it is being done to pursue other hidden motives , it can be deemed as invasive also . For ex : In India "AADHAR" is the bio-metric identity you get which has your bio-metric information i.e Fingerprint Scan , Retina Scan . This information is stored with the government and various agencies related to it , one may use it for some unethical purpose without the knowledge of the person whose information is being used .While other traditional surveillance which are currently being implemented in the world seem more invasive than that of the genetic techniques , we are not looking at the background information yet , these information can be use to demerit us , to strip a minority community of their equal rights , equal opportunities at the hands of he majority forces in governance and they may dictate their terms to everyone and then this surveillance which was designed to catch criminals will be used to carry out agenda motives and invade the privacy of each and every individual . It will be very effective in carrying out mass surveillance as every one of us a unique set of DNA and genetic identity but will have its own shortcomings as it is shown in the movie . As quoted in the movie "There is no gene for fate" - what will happen , will happen , one may try to seek their future on the basis of how they are designed but , one cannot change their fate .
