answer-

Communication is integral and very important part of our personal as well work life. i would tell you about a incident in which miscommunication occurred. one day at work, I got into argument with my co-worker that He has stolen my idea of the project and submit that idea to manager as his idea. This frustrate me and made me so angry that i called him and decide not to talk to him again. next day i find out that no one stole my idea. it just that his idea was similar to mine and already submitted days before my idea so i send him text message to say sorry and apologize to him. he did not reply me back and ignored me. i thought he has seen my message and decided not to talk to me.

The problem in this case was that he has not seen my sorry message yet. i also did not response or confirm with him that he had seen my message or not so poor choice of communication medium and lack of feedback cause the miscommunication between me and my co-worker.

In this case, i could have used different mode of communication like verbal communication in which i could have said sorry to my co-worker face to face or over mobile phone instead of sending text message. This way, my message would have sent him to directly like i would have said sorry for misunderstanding face to face.there would be no barrier or any result of miscommunication.

Yes, we employ various methods of communication in today's workplace like talk over phones, emails, text messages, letter, memos etc. According to me, top two communication challenges in today's society and workplace are-

attitude, personality and ego of person-

This is one of the main challenge which we face at workplace as well in society because those people who have bad attitude and ego is high tend to have communication gap with people with polite nature, extrovert and social people with low ego.

for example- A person with bad attitude and high ego would not listen to other people and never accept their mistakes even other party has valid reason and facts that the person is wrong.

Cultural differences-

This is the second top communication barrier or challenge because now a days, workplace and society is filled with people from different different culture each have different different perspective on communication so this can create communication challenge.

for example- If a female employee look eye to eye to another person then it shows confidence and maturity in US culture but it shows shameless and offensive in Muslim culture.

Use of slangs, Use of body movements, use of talk or words over phone or social media can create communication challenges among team members from different culture.
