Answer:

The advantages and disadvantages of robotic surgery are as below

Advantage:

  • Robot can perform the surgery more systematically than human doctor, as Robot works on instructions. Robot is better in following the set of instructions.
  • We can expect better repeatability and reproducibility with the Robot surgery than human doctor surgery, as Robot can repeat the surgery multiple times.
  • Robot surgery is good for repeating nature of surgery, as Robot is more efficient in repeat kind of works.

Disadvantage:

  • Robot could not replace human sense, as it may required during the surgery that humans sense and human decision is required looking at the situation during the surgery.
  • We have less confidence over Robot, because Robots are machine and not human being.

When it comes to cost, human doctor will be cheaper, as cost of robot may be much higher as compared to the cost of human doctor. Later may be the cost of robot may be low, but currently the cost of robot surgery is much higher than human doctor.

The da Vinci Surgical System is an example of a robot used in surgery.

Two positive aspects:

  • It can execute the surgery with the proved set of instructions.
  • The surgery was OK and we did not heard any major problem.

Two negative aspects of this system:

  • We were having very low confidence on the Robot surgery.
  • We are not sure if everything is carried out perfectly. We will always have doubts in our mind on robot surgery approach.
