Through consistent use of audits and data cleansing, a company seeks to improve the efficiency of its data operations. What this means is that there is always a possibility that data that was utilized in earlier endeavors were nor properly discarded and inefficient data practices could have allowed accumulation of unnecessary and uncategorized data that would not prove to be of any purpose. Over time, this transforms into highly inefficient readings, issues with analytics and the validity of decision-making processes are compromised. We know the amount of data any business intelligence system collects has high volumes which means that inefficient data practices result in companies having to pay for more storage than necessary, which can amount to a large sunk capital. Periodic cleaning and audits can enable a company to verify that the data they have collected is available for use, current, categorized and stored properly and therefore, discarded properly taking care of any remains or fragments of data that end up muddying the system over time.
It then makes a comprehensive report for the management to look
into its processes, aiding better decision making and increases the
quality and ability of the system to function. We can consider it
as an assessment where the evaluation of data and underlying data
management practices are scrutinized and thereby, problem areas are
identified and appropriately dealt with.
