There are various ways by which electrons can be shared or donated between the atoms - that is called types of bond formation.
1) Ionic bond : It is formed when a atom (electropositive) donates it's electrons to the another atom (which has tendency to take electrons (electronegative)) . it is strong bond where complete +ve and --ve charge on the atom exists. e.g : electron transfer from Na •----> Cl . Na has one e- in their valance shell which it donates to Chlorine to form NaCl salt .
2) Covalent bond ): It is formed by sharing of electrons between the atoms . In this case electronegativity difference between the two atom is not large . e.g. in CH4 , C has 4 valance e- which it shares with 4 H to form 4 covalent bonds. There is no ion formation in this type of bond .
3) Coordinate / Dative bond : It is formed when one atom donates it's lone pair to electrons in the vacant orbital of other atom. This bond is the reason of formation of complexes. The atom / molecule which has tendency to accept lone pair of electrons are called Lewis acid and the atom / molecule which has tendency to donate lone pair of electrons are called Lewis base. e.g: H3N:-----> BF3.
Compare the ways in which electrons can be donated or shared between atoms.
Covalent bonds form between hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen atoms when valence electrons are shared between the atoms valence electrons are subsituted between the atoms electrons are attracted to the nucleus protons are shared between the atoms
E. electrons are shared between two atoms. 49. Molecules that form when electrons are shared unequally between atoms are called A. salt molecules. B. polar molecules. C. nonpolar molecules. D. lopsided molecules. 50. An atom has an atomic number of 19 and a mass number of 39. This atom will have A. 19 neutrons. B. 20 neutrons. C. 39 neutrons. D. 58 neutrons. E. 20 electrons.
A covalent bond is a bond in which electrons are shared between atoms of elements. A covalent bond can be polar or nonpolar. In a nonpolar covalent bond, the bond is between two identical atoms and the electrons are evenly shared between the atoms. In contrast, in a polar covalent bond, the bond is between two nonidentical atoms and the electrons are unevenly shared between the atoms. The uneven sharing of electrons takes place because of the difference in the electronegativity...
During reaction between calcium and oxygen valence electrons: A. are shared between atoms of calcium and atoms of oxygen B are transferred from atoms of calcium to atoms of oxygen to form Ca+ and O- ions C are transferred from atoms of calcium to atoms of oxygen to form Ca+2 and O-2 ions D are transferred from atoms of oxygen to atoms of calcium to form Ca-and O+ions

Categorize the characteristics by whether they describe the nucleus or electrons. Nucleus Electrons Answer Bank attracts the negatively charged particles into the space surrounding it can move from one som to another negatively charged positively charged can gain or lose energy can bond two atoms into a molecule when shared between two atoms
