You perform a titration and obtain the following data. Calculate the molarity of the sodium hydroxide solution. Do not solve this problem with M1V1 = M2V2.

  • Concentration of HC2H3O2: 0.120 M
  • Volume of HC2H3O2 dispensed at the endpoint: 25.20 mL
  • Volume of NaOH dispensed at the endpoint: 24.00mL

Show formulas used an include all work please. Thanks.

Answer #1
  • Concentration of HC2H3O2:(CH3COOH) : 0.120 M
  • Volume of HC2H3O2 (CH3COOH) dispensed at the endpoint: 25.20 mL
  • Volume of NaOH dispensed at the endpoint: 24.00mL

CH3COOH (aq) + NaOH (aq) ===> CH3COONa (aq) + H2O(l)

moles of CH3COOH consumed : 0.120 mol/L * 25.20 mL * 1L/1000 mL = 0.003024 moles

since,   1 mol CH3COOH = 1 mol of NaOH

thus, moles of NaOH used : 0.003024 moles

Concentration of NaOH : 0.003024 mole / 24.00 mL * 1000 mL /L = 0.126 mol/L

[NaOH] = 0.126 M
