Let’s assume that you have devised a full-proof selection and training process for your employees. Would this make employee termination completely unnecessary? Who would be to blame if termination was needed (keep in mind your selection process is “full-proof”), and how would you determine when to fire someone?

Answer #1

When it comes to humans nothing can be full proof. Now we can design a process of selection and training that is full proof but after training when the employees are deployed, their efficiency will eventually drop and they will make mistake. You can make a process perfect but when human factor is involved you’re bound to have some errors and a full proof plan should have measures for that. Termination cannot be completely unnecessary as there can be various reasons for termination that are completely unrelated with work. When it comes to blame you cannot blame the process as human behavior is unpredictable and changes with time. So in order to reach accord with the employee, we must discuss performance reviews and if employee is not able to fulfill the criteria then actions might be taken against him/her. Therefore termination is part of employment as without it organization won’t be able to make room for new employees when needed. We can make sure that current employees are performing well and those who are not, they can be trained again or we can give them deadline to improve their performance, if they can, well and good but if they can’t then we must let them go as we need to grow and find room for someone new who can do the job efficiently than previous employee.
