Q7. Answer

Steel is an alloy of iron, carbon percentage is 0.02% to 2%.

Iron is an alloy of iron, carbon percentage is 2% to 4%

cast iron is cheaper then steel, and slow melting point with the ability to mold easily.

cast iron is used for making manhole covers and pipes etc.

steel is used fabricated to make a tools and structure etc.

Q8. Answer

Train rail are using material is Pig iron,

Pig iron is High carbon iron, This manufacturing process is blast furnace process.

The switch rail is heated by induction to complete austenitizing.

The rail is heated continuously with soft coolant to obtain fine pearlites, in this process is called the slack quenching process.

quenching process is compressed air and water spray, The pearlite transition occurs from 700°C to 550°C and cooling rate 2–5°C/S, In this process hardness reached 320-390 HRC.

Q9. Answer:

1) Metals are combinations of metallic elements. Metallic materials have large number of nonlocalized electrons, characteristics like high electrical, thermal conductivity and high mechanical properties.

2) Ceramic is just another kind of material just like metals and polymer. it would become a composite whose matrix is the ceramic and the reinforcement the steel particles

3) Composites are a mix of two or more elements, They consist of a matrix which holds the second element (reinforcement) in place so increase the strength of the matrix.
