1.On a hill
Pick up trucks will often carry sand bags in the back to help with traction. Consider a truck of mass M=1500kg on a hill inclined at 5 degrees. Construct a free body diagram and use it to determine the minimum coefficient of friction so the truck does not slide down the hill. Using this coefficient of friction determine if the truck had 100 kg extra weight if it would slide down the hill or not (i.e. does extra weight affect friction). Discuss your results.

2.On a corner
My 900-kg Toyota Echo has winter tires which provide traction in cold weather, u = 0.8. Suppose I am travelling at 90km/h and would like navigate a corner. Again construct a free body diagram to determine the smallest radius of corner this car can navigate at this speed. Research typical corner radius on a highway (or use map to measure directly!)
