A baseball traveling 25 m/sec strikes an area on a bat that is traveling 30 m/sec. The velocity of the ball off of the bat is 40 m/sec, and the velocity of the bat after the impact is 10 m/sec. Calculate the coefficient of restitution for this particular bat and ball.

The coeficient of restitution is CR

And it is defined as the ratio of relative velocity after the collision to the relative velocity before the collision.

Initial velocity of base ball u1 = 25m/sec

Initial velocity of bat u2 = 30m/sec

After collision

Final velocity of base ball V1= 40m/sec

Final velocity of the bat V2 = 10m/sec

Therefore the coeficient of restitution

CR = 4

Hence coefficient of restitution is 4
