Question

The fundamental frequency of a pipe that is open at both ends is 563 Hz ....

The fundamental frequency of a pipe that is open at both ends is 563 Hz .

part a: How long is this pipe? Use v = 344 m/s.

L = …….. m

pat b: If one end is now closed, find the wavelength of the new fundamental.

(lambda) = …… m

Answer #1

a)

for a pipe that is open at both ends,

fo = v/(2L),

or, 563 Hz = (344 m/s)/(2L)

or, L = 0.306 m

b)

for a pipe that is open at one end,

= 4L

put L = 0.306 m, to get

= 1.22 m

c)

fo = v/

or, fo = (344 m/s)/

or, fo = 281.5 Hz
