Alligators are considered as keystone species . Because they maintain the balance between different species and ecosystem . Alligators maintain the fish populations number by attacking them , otherwise plant species may die out because of over consumption. They restrict the exponential growth of such species and maintain ecosystem balance .

Alligators also dig alligator holes which are considered as their house but it get converted to water and food source for the aquatic animals during drought. Moving few alligators from their ecosystem may causes huge negative changes . Thatswhy alligators are considered as keystone species.
