how the Thermal analysis related to electrical motor failure ?
To meet the goals of efficiency and performance, the components of the electric motor must be designed in such a way that they can be operated at overload for a limited period of time. The most important thing to achieve this is to understand the thermal behaviour of all motor components and what can lead to their failure.
To reduce/avoid this,in starting there should be accurate calculation of electrical and mechanical looses because they act as a heat source,in addition with that, heat removal by the cooling medium should also be taken into account.Electrical losses are calculated from the distribution of current density and magnetic flux density. In addition with mechanical losses, this results in the distribution of the power dissipation, which further act as a heat sources in the thermal analysis.
Now to keep the temperature within limits ,cooling techniques must be used, else this will lead to motor failure.
I have tried my best to make you understand why and how thermal analysis can lead motor failure?
