Concerning the preparation of the methylmagnesium iodide, why do you need to add the remaining methyl iodide slowly once the reaction got started?
The preparation of grignard reagent is done by adding methyl iodide to Magnesium metal. Methyl iodide is highly reactive with Magnesium and the reaction is highly exothermic. If you add the methyl iodide at a time, it might result in catching fire or the glass container might break apart due to high amount of heat released.
Hence methyl iodide is added slowly to the reaction mixture.

PREPARATION OF PHARMACEUTICALS - Fischer Esterification Reactions Q: Calculate the expected mass of both methyl salicylate and aspirin assuming 100% yield. EXPERIMENT7 PREPARATION OF PHARMACEUTICALS Fischer Esterification Reactions Almost 2500 years ago, physicians such as Hippocrates recommended that patients chew on the bark of the willow to alleviate pain. The active ingredient in willow bark was found to be salicin, a compound made of a molecule of salicyl alcohol bonded to a p-D-glucose molecule. In the stomach, the bond between...
Why do you add saturated NaHCO3 to your crude aspirin? Why do you later add 3M HCl?
In the Sponification of Methyl Salicylate, what do you expect the temperature of the reaction mixture to be during reflux? Why?
. In preparation of gel electrophoresis, how many grams of SDS do you need to prepare for 2 grams of protein?
i need help with the postlab questions please Grignard reagent THE GRIGNARD REAGENT-PREPARATION AND REACTION In this experiment, you will prepare a Grignard reagent, phenyl magnesium bromide, from bromobenzene and magnesium metal. The Grignard reagent will then react with methyl benzoate to form triphenylmethanol. Introduction Grignard reagents, such as organomagnesium halides, were discovered in 1910 by French chemist Victor Grignard. The Grignard reaction is one of the most general methods for carbon- carbon bond formation in all of organic chemistry....
3. Why do you need to keep adding precipitating reagent until your sample solution no longer precipitates? Looking at the values and average value your group got for %P0 or %S0 consider your results in this experiment to be reproducible? Why? do you 4.
1. Preparation of 2-chloro-2-methylbutane from 2-methyl-2-butanol involves Sw1 reaction mechanism. What does Sw1 mean? (1 pts) 2. This reaction prefers to undergo via Sw1 mechanism over Sw2. Why? (3 pts) 3. Write the structure of carbocation and nucleophile involved in this reaction. (2 pts) 4. Substrate alcohol (2-methyl-2-butanol) consists a poor leaving group (OH group). How do you covert this poor leaving group into good leaving group? (2 pts) 5. Which will be the bottom layer between aqueous and organic...
2) Why do you think we add an excess of the relatively unstable hydrogen peroxide or hydrobromic acid to the reaction? Group of answer choices A) Some of the reagent will evaporate due to the heat of reaction B) Some of the reagent will be voted out of the flask. C) Some of the reagent will inherently not be reactive. D) Some of the reagent will be lost to decomposition without having a chance to react.
