clipper is a P-n diode-based circuit that limits or prevents the input signal to reach over or under a certain voltage.

since high gain amplifies should have a voltage range above which due to high gain the output reaches to the max even if we change input there will no smaller change.

here clipper circuit help keep the input voltage in the range of proper operation for the gain change to be visible and adequate for output.

in short, they help to keep the input voltage level to exceed beyond a limit.
