Answer #1

Efficiency %=( 1- T2/T1)× 100 = (1- 283/ 363)×100

= (1- 283/363)×100= 22%

T2/T1= 300/400= Q2/Q1= 330/Q1

Q1= 440J

Q1- Q2 = 440 - 330 = 100J

    An engineer is developing an electric water heater to provide acontinuous ("on demand") supply of hot water. One trial design isshown in the figure. Water is flowing at the rate F, the inlet thermometer registers T_1, the voltmeter reads V, and the ammeter reads current I. Then the power (i.e., the heat generated perunit time by the heating element) is VI. Assume that the heat capacity of water is C and that the heat capacity of the heater apparatus is...

    A power cycle operates between a lake’s surface water at a temperature of 300 K and water at a depth whose temperature is 285 K. At steady state the cycle develops a power output of 10 kW, while rejecting energy by heat transfer to the lower temperature water at the rate 14,400 kJ/min. Determine (a) the thermal efficiency of the power cycle and (b) the maximum thermal efficiency for any such power cycle. I have no idea on how to...

    Water is to be heated from 10 °C to 83 °C as it flows through a 0.015 m-internal-diameter, 13-m-long tube. The tube is equipped with an electric resistance heater, which provides uniform heating throughout the surface of the tube. The outer surface of the heater is well insulated, so that in steady operation all the heat generated in the heater is transferred to the water in the tube. The system provides hot water at a rate of 5 L/min Assumelp...

    The heater used in a 4.32 m×3.55 m×2.91 m dorm room uses the combustion of natural gas (primarily methane gas) to produce the heat required to increase the temperature of the air in the dorm room. Assuming that all of the energy produced in the reaction goes towards heating only the air in the dorm room, calculate the mass of methane required to increase the temperature of the air by 6.97 °C. Assume that the specific heat of air is...
