If I'm filling a tax return form 1040 and I'm given a trial balance from the owner's business.

what goes on line 1 for form 1040? Is it just the cash? and the expenses on the qualified business deductions line 9?

While filing the 1040 tax form for individuals, the total earnings should come in line 1 but not only cash received and the line 9 from form 1040 shows the qualified business income deduction which is allowed up to 20% of qualified business income when the total taxable income for 2018 (recent provision) is over $207,500 (for individual tax payer).
