The exchange of respiratory gases occurs in the terminal bronchiole and alveolar sacs of bronchial tree in respiratory system, because terminal bronchiole and alveolar sacs are made up respectively of simple squamous epithelium and great alveolar cells, that are specifically permeable to gases through diffusion. Hence option (b) is the correct answer.
