We will analyze the difference in the fuel efficiency of two new brands of hybrid vehicles. The standard deviations of these two populations are unknown, but the engineers from these companies believe that they are equal.  A sample of 38 hybrid vehicles produced by Forde Motors had a mean of 70.3 MPG and standard deviation of 1.6 MPG, and a sample of 33 hybrid vehicles produced by GeM motors had a mean of 69.7 MPG and standard deviation of 4.9 MPG. A claim is made that the mean fuel efficiency of the Forde hybrid vehicle (μ1) is greater than the mean fuel efficiency of the GeM hybrid vehicle (μ2

).

For each part below, enter only a numeric value in the answer box. For example, do not type "z =" or "t =" before your answers. Round each of your answers to 3 places after the decimal point.

The average fuel efficiency of vehicles in a light weight class in 2012 was 31mpg. If the standard deviation of the population (σ) was 3 and the gas ratings were normally distributed, what is the probability that the mean mpg for a randomly selected light weight vehicle is between 27mpg and 34mpg?

30 Fuel efficiency. Computers in some vehicles calculate various quantities related to performance. One of these is the fuel efficiency, or gas mileage, usually expressed as miles per gallon (mpg). For one vehicle equipped in this way, the miles per gallon were recorded each time the gas tank was filled, and the computer was then reset. Here are the mpg values for a random sample of 20 of these records: MPG 13 41.5 50.7 36.6 37.3 34.2 45.0 48.0 43.2...

    8. In a recent year the fuel economy of all passenger vehicles was 19.8 mpg. A trade organization sampled 50 passenger vehicles for fuel economy and obtained a sample mean of 20.1 mpg with standard deviation 2.45 mpg. The sample mean 20.1 exceeds 19.8, but perhaps the increase is only a result of sampling error. a. 1. When hybrid vehicles were introduced the mean time required for savings from increased fuel economy to recover the additional initial cost was 4.2 years. To test whether it is now less an economist performed a study of 12 hybrid vehicles. The mean time cost recovery time was 3.9 years with sample standard deviation 0.6 years. The test is performed at the 1% level of significance. Assume that the population of recovery times is normally distributed. a) State the null...

In the year 2000, the average vehicle had a fuel economy of 24.09 MPG. You are curious as to whether the average in the present day is greater than the historical value. The hypotheses for this scenario are as follows: Null Hypothesis: μ ≤ 24.09, Alternative Hypothesis: μ > 24.09. A random sample of 34 vehicles shows an average economy of 24.24 MPG with a standard deviation of 3.185 MPG. What is the test statistic and p-value for this test?...
