The counting technique for determining the size of the sample space is a) Multiplication

The sample space contains elements of the form EEEE,NEEE, ENEE etc. So you have 4 bits and each bit can take one of two values: E or N. Thus, by multiplication, we get the size of sample space as 2*2*2*2=16.
