A spherical conducting shell has a net charge of +7.0 nC and inner and outer radii 10 cm and 25 cm respectively. A point charge with magnitude -2.0 nC is placed at the center of this conducting shell.

Use Gauss's Law to find the magnitude and direction of the electric field of the charge configuration at a distance 6 cm from the center of the spherical shell.

Answer #1

From Gauss' law

The same mount of +2nC charge is induced inside the sphere. Now apply the Gauss law E= 9x109 Q/r2 at a given distance from centre of sphere. E = 9x109x2x10-9 /(6x10-2)

E= 1800/36 =50C/m
