Zinc metal reacts with hydrochloric acid according to the balanced equation: 2HCl (aq) + Zn (s)...

  1. Zinc metal reacts with hydrochloric acid according to the balanced equation:

2HCl (aq) + Zn (s) ® ZnCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)

When 0.103 g of zinc is combined with enough HCl to make 50.0 mL of solution in a coffee-cup calorimeter, all of the zinc reacts, resulting the temperature of the solution from 22.5oC to 23.7 oC. Find DHrxn for this reaction as written. The density, and the specific heat of the solution are 1.00 g/mL and 4.184 J/g oC respectively. Assume that the calorimeter does not absorb any heat.
