For this question:- Take a simple random sample of 5 schools in the district. For each school in the sample, list all the homerooms. Take a simple random sample of 3 homerooms from each school in the sample. For each homeroom in the sample, list the students. Take a simple random sample of 10 students from each homeroom in the sample. List their weights. Combine the lists and average the results.

I answered "a random stratified multistage random cluster sample" but it was wrong. How should I think about this question?

Answer #1

Because the " stratified" word is not appropriate here,

See in the first stage we select 5 schools using simple random sample

then in the next stage we select 3 homerooms from each school using simple random sample

and then select 10 students from each homeroom in the sample

Since there are more than 2 stages of selection it is multistage random sampling ( three stage random sampling).

Also, we can not study all the clusters so "cluster" is not appropriate as per the sampling theory.

So it is "Multistage random sampling".

Would you agree to the statement on random sampling methods. Please explain why. In probability samples “each population element has a known (non-zero) chance of being chosen for the sample.” (StatTrek 2020). Some examples of probability samples are, simple random sampling, stratified sampling, cluster sampling, multistage sampling, and systematic random sampling. Simple random sampling is the population and sample consists of “N” objects, and an example is when people play the lottery. Stratified sampling is based on some type of...
