Ans: Intel along with other companies developed a program that would have third-party auditors evaluate smelters and refiners that designate minerals as conflict-free and would also be able to track through each step of the supply chain by “bagging and tagging” these minerals. Intel collaborated with US government’s State Departments and RESOLVE (an NGO) to create a group called the Public-Private Alliance for Responsible Mineral Trade. This group created a map of origins and paths in the complicated production of conflict materials before they get to the final product used by Intel. The government sector knew the laws and how to enforce them while the NGOs brought an understanding of the public and leaders to the table. To tie those strengths together, Intel had the finances and the means to support the initiatives.

Strengths: Businesses have financial means, commercial relationships, and skills to get projects completed on time and within budget. Civil Society has support from the community. Lots of voices, knowledge, volunteers and inspirational leaders. The government has the knowledge of policies and can enforce rules, and revenue from taxation.

Weaknesses: A Business can be lead to disregard the long-term impacts of their actions on others.
