Suppose your planet at 1 meter from the ball represents a distance of 4 x 10^7 km from the star. The next closest star to the Sun is 4 x 10^13 km away. How far away from the model star would you have to be for the distances in the system to be to scale? Express your answer in meters and kilometers.

From the correctly scaled distance, could we actually see the planet as it moves in front of the star? Will the planet still be blocking light from the star? Explain.

    1) a)You are asked to find the initial velocity of a steel ball from a spring loaded launcher. You place the launcher on the edge of a table 1.0 meter above the floor and launch the projectile several times horizontally. If you find that the average distance the ball travels is 1.3 meters, what is the initial velocity of the ball? a) Using s = rθ, calculate the arc length (in meters) subtended by the sun when it moves an angular distance of 2 x10-6 °. The distance between the Earth and Sun is called an AU (astronomical unit). 1 AU = 1.5 x1011 m. (Don’t forget to convert to radians). As you can see from the above calculation, a small change in angle can correspond to a large distance. In astronomy angles are typically measured in arcminutes or arcseconds 1...

show calculations please! In Astronomy we often deal with distances, or lengths, that range form the very small to the very large. For instance The size of a nucleus is roughly 0.000, 000,000,000,001 meters and the distance to the nearest star is roughly 700,000,000,000 meters. We will talk about these numbers using scientific notation where each zero is counted as ten raised to an exponent equal to the number of zeros. Le the size of a nucleus is 1 x...
