This problem could be solved from momentum conservation

Since the ball is thrown vertically upwards, the momentum imparted to me is vertically downwards

However, the earth exerts a force in upwards direction to counter this momentum experienced by the person. This force is in addition to the person's weight. Therefore, the force by ground on the person would increase momentarily when the ball is being thrown

Option b is correct
